PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package for packaging an image pickup device which allows the definite identification of the directionality of a birefringent plate and is high in the reliability of hermetic sealing. SOLUTION: The package for image pickup device comprises an insulating body 1 and a translucent lid 2. The insulating body 1 has a recess 1a on the upper face for mounting the image pickup device 4. The translucent lid 2 is bonded to the upper face of the insulating body 1 with a sealing material 3 between so that the recess 1a is covered. The translucent lid 2 has in its center an area S through which light incident on the image pickup device 4 is transmitted. The translucent lid 2 is an optical low-pass filter comprising at least one birefringent plate, and is provided with a mark 7 for identifying the direction of separation of incoming light.
