PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device for a magnetic wall moving magneto-optical recording medium wherein a good reproducing signal is obtained, the maximum recording area of a user is secured, and format efficiency is high. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a recording circuit for starting recording in a data area at predetermined timing with a detecting signal obtained in a preformat area set as a reference, and a reproducing circuit for starting the reproduction of information recorded in the data area at timing earlier than the predetermined timing with the detecting signal set as a reference.
