PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep constant the extinction ratio of a laser diode for converting a high-speed burst signal into an optical signal.

SOLUTION: Control is performed to make a difference between an average light power of a burst #1 with a modulation current Im of an ordinary value and an average light power of a burst #2 a little increasing the modulation current equal with a reference value, and to make an average light power of a burst #3 with the modulation current Im of the ordinary value equal with the reference value.
