A thermal protector 1 comprises a tubular metal casing 2 having an initially open end 4, a conductive arm 5 adapted to charge its longitudinal curvature with temperature charges and extending into the casing 2 as a cantilever, and insulation 7 around the conductive arm, the casing 2 being compressed at the initially open end 4 to squeeze against the insulation around the conductive arm 5 and to seal the end of the casing, the deformed end of the easing being of a maximum width no greater than the original width of the casing and being smaller in area than undeformed sections of the casing. The cross-sectional shape of the deformed end may be octagonal, oval or hexagonal. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown), both ends of the casing are initially open with a concentric arm projecting into each end. In a further embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown), the casing wall may carry a contact and provide a path for the current. |
