PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous production method of optically active 2-amino-2-(2-naphthyl)ethanols represented by formula (3) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each H or a lower alkyl). SOLUTION: The production method of optically active 2-amino-2-(2-naphthyl)ethanols represented by formula (3) comprises reacting 2-amino-2-(2-naphthyl)ethanols represented by formula (1) with optically active tartranilic acids represented by formula (2) (wherein R<SP>5</SP>is H or the like; (*) denotes an asymmetric carbon) in a solvent to obtain an diastereomeric salt and subjecting the diastereomeric salt to an alkali treatment.
