PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To three-dimensionally evaluate a low-absorption region (low-absorption volume region) of a lung. SOLUTION: Three-dimensional CT data on the lung are read in (S1) and volume data are prepared from the CT data (S2). A lung field volume sector is extracted from the volume data (S3) and the low-absorption volume region in the lung field volume sector is extracted (S4). The wall of each low-absorption volume region is removed (S5) and evaluate values are calculated on the basis of the volume of each low-absorption volume region wherefrom the wall is removed (S6). Besides, the evaluate values compatible with conventional ones are also calculated (S7). The low-absorption region (low-absorption volume region) of the lung can be evaluated three-dimensionally by this method. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
