1,272,561. Incorporating photographic ingredients into hydrophilic colloid compositions. AGFA GEVAERT. Aug. 18, 1969 [Sept. 10, 1968], No.43029/68. Heading G2C. A hydrophilic colloid composition comprising a hydrophilic colloid binder having uniformly distributed therethrough a colour coupling component and/or a mask-forming component is formed by dispersing said component(s) in the hydrophilic colloid binder in the presence of a water-insoluble wax to form a dispersion in the said colloid of wax particles containing the said component(s). The water-insoluble wax is preferably an animal, insect, vegetable, mineral or petroleum wax. The wax may be a synthetic wax selected from long-chain hydrocarbons or halogenated and partly oxidized long-chain hydrocarbons, a wax-like saturated and unbranched fatty acid or alcohol, an ester of a fatty acid and a fatty alcohol, a pentaerythritol ester of a fatty acid, an alkyl ester of 12-hydroxystearic acid, a sucrose diester of a fatty acid, an ester of fatty acid and sorbitol, a hydrogenated castor oil or sperm oil and an amide derivative of a fatty acid. A liquid solution of the said component and the said wax may be formed in a common organic solvent or mixture thereof and this solution may then be dispersed in the hydrophilic colloid binder. Alternatively an aqueous solution of said component may be formed, which is then dispersed in a solution of the said wax in a water-immiscible or sparingly water-miscible solvent or mixture thereof, the resulting liquid composition being dispersed in the hydrophilic colloid binder and the solvent(s) being removed during and/or after dispersing the liquid composition in the hydrophilic colloid binder. The hydrophilic colloid binder may be a light-sensitive silver halide colloid composition containing a disperse phase of silver halide in a hydrophilic colloid. The hydrophilic colloid composition is preferably admixed with a photographic light-sensitive silver halide colloid composition comprising a disperse phase of silver halide in a hydrophilic colloid, since this method avoids excessive agitation of the silver halide emulsion which could cause fog. |
