The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1067538/C4-C5/1> where R is H or CH3. The compounds may be prepared either by reacting at an elevated temperature 1-amino or 1-methylamino-2,4-dibromoanthraquinone with p-aminophenylethyl alcohol in the presence of a copper catalyst and a buffer in an alcohol or by reacting 1-amino or 1-methylamino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone with p-aminophenylethyl alcohol in the presence of boric acid at an elevated temperature.
