PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus, enabling quick processing by switching buffering to be performed only in need, and not always performed so as to prevent lowering of processing speed and failure of paper feeding. SOLUTION: This printing apparatus includes: a continuous form printing means 31 for printing a continuous paper sheet; a cutting mode specifying means 42 for specifying a cutting mode depending on the type of a document; a document switching detecting means 47 for detecting the type or switching of the document; a cutting directing means 48 for directing a cutting means 32 to cut in a preset cutting mode according to the type of the document detected by the document switching detecting means 47; and a cutting means 32 for cutting the printed continuous paper sheet according to a direction from the cutting directing means 48.
