An optical port comprises at least one measurement cell body (7) connected to a pipe or a vessel (17), a threaded insert (14) within the measurement cell body, with a radiation transparent window (4) engaged in the insert, a cover (2) which is releasably connected to the measurement cell, and a shell (5) between the transparent window and the cover holding the window in the insert. Preferred Features: A first cylindrical cavity (13a) is between the window and the threaded insert, and is connected via bores (8) with a second cylindrical cavity defined between the threaded insert and the measurement cell body. A control bore (15) links another cavity (13b) with a pressure monitoring device. The cavities (13a,b) are sealed against ingress of the pipe or vessel product by static seals (10,11), and against the external environment by seals (9,12). An Independent claim is included for use of the above device for optical or spectroscopic process control.
