PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve input/output performance of a plurality of logical devices set on physical devices. SOLUTION: In the information processing system, an array type external storage 14 is connected subordinately to a controller 12 connected to a processor 10, the array type external storage 14 is provided with a plurality of array groups 141 each including a plurality of physical devices 142, and the plurality of logical devices 143 are set in each array group 141. An observation result of reception frequency of input/output requests per each array group/logical device/physical device is stored in a table provided in a memory 122 for control information in the controller 12. Loads of the physical devices 142 are equalized by transposing logical devices 143 belonging to different array groups 141 and having mutually different reception frequencies of input/output requests. The transposing operation can be carried out at optional timing by an instruction from a service apparatus 13 connected to the controller 12. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
