PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ethylene wax with a narrow molecular weight distribution in a high production efficiency. SOLUTION: The method for producing an ethylene wax comprises (co)polymerizing ethylene in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising (A) a transition metal compound represented by the formula: R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>M (wherein M is zirconium or titanium; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a group having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton, provided they may be linked to each other by an optionally substituted silylene group and are not linked to each other by an optionally substituted alkylene group or an alkylidene group; and R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryl, a halogen atom, a trialkylsilyl, -SO<SB>3</SB>R, or the like), (B) a compound which reacts with compound (A) to form an ion pair, and (C) an organoaluminum compound, thus forming an ethylene polymer having an intrinsic viscosity [η] of 0.40 dl/g or lower.
