Determining hydrolase activity, useful especially for detecting nitrilase and amidase, by reaction with acid derivative and hydroxylamine, then with ferric iron solution

Method for determining the hydrolase activity of a test solution against carboxylic acid derivatives (A) on a solid support comprises: (a) applying the sample to the support; (b) incubation with a hydroxylamine solution and at least one (A); and (c) treatment of the support with an acidic iron (III) solution. An Independent claim is also included for a similar method in which hydroxylamine and (A) are incorporated into the solid support and this is treated sequentially with test sample and the iron (III) solution.
