PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lowering of the removal capacity of a nitrogen compound accompanying the lowering of outdoor air temperature and to efficiently remove phosphorus and nitrogen compounds by electrolytic treatment, in a sewage treatment equipment for removing phosphorus and nitrogen compounds. SOLUTION: Phosphorus and nitrogen compounds are removed using a nitrogen removing electrode constituted so that a cathode comprising a conductor including a metal material belonging to the Group Ib or IIb or a conductor coated with the metal material of the same Group and an anode comprising an insoluble metal material are paired, and a phosphorus removing metal wherein an electrode comprising an iron material or an aluminum alloy material is used as an anode and a cathode to constitute a pair of electrodes. Further, a plurality of electrode rows are formed wherein the nitrogen removing electrodes and the phosphorus removing electrodes are alternately arranged in the flowing direction of treated water in an electrolytic cell.
