PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contrast phantom for assessing a contrast response in a radiation transmission system. SOLUTION: The contrast phantom assesses the characteristics of an image recording/detecting system, the response of signal and noise associated with light exposure and a dynamic range, and is composed of an absorbent medium which is subject to a sudden change in mass attenuation coefficient caused by a K edge absorption by the energy level of at least one photon between the average and the largest energy at the lowest energy spectra received thereby.
