PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine with the structure capable of easily and safely recovering a cutter driving mechanism or the like in a short time. SOLUTION: This shield machine is provided with a bulkhead 4 provided in front of a cylindrical shield frame 2, a support shaft 5 for a cutter 3, which is pivotally supported on a working face side of the bulkhead 4 through a seal 6, a driving part holder 12 arranged on a mine side of the bulkhead 4, a driving shaft 13 pivotally supported by the holder 12, a means 28 for engaging and disengaging the driving shaft 13 and the support shaft 5 with/from each other, and a means 32 for engaging and disengaging the holder 12 and the bulkhead 4 with/from each other. The driving shaft 13 fitted to the holder 12 and a motor 14 can be integrally recovered with the holder 12 by separating the driving shaft 13 and the support shaft 5 from each other and separating the holder 12 and the bulkhead 4 from each other. Since water is cut between the support shaft 5 and the bulkhead 4 by the seal 6 independently of separation of the holder 12, concrete placing work, water filling work and diving work performed in current are eliminated, and the recovery is easily and safely done in a short time.
