PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device which attains a gray scale display corresponding to the visual sensitivity of colors even in a display state by the reflection of external light and has excellent visibility even under the external light. SOLUTION: The display device has a light source section 1 which emits a plurality of color light and a liquid crystal panel 2 which controls the passage of the color light emitted from the light source section 1. One field is divided to a plurality of subfields fr, fg and fb, and the specific color light among a plurality of the color light is emitted in a period in at least part of the respective subfields. When the image corresponding to the specific color light is displayed on the liquid crystal panel 2, the lengths of the periods of the respective subfields are so set as not to be made the same as the length of the periods of the other subsfields constituting the one field; namely, these lengths are so set as not to be made the same in the lengths of fr, fg and fb as each other and intensity levels are assigned by the combinations of the periods of the set subfields.
