<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply the modification method to a formic acid-dehydrogenation enzyme to provide a new formic acid-dehydrogenation enzyme capable of utilizing NADP as a coenzyme, and to provide a method for making the enzyme to coexist in an NADP dependence type enzymatic reduction system to efficiently reproduce the coenzyme. <P>SOLUTION: This method for modifying the coenzyme dependence type of the formic acid-dehydrogenation enzyme is a method for modifying the enzyme itself to change the coenzyme dependency of the formic acid-dehydrogenation enzyme having high durability to halogen compounds and originating from a microorganism belonging to the genus Thiobacillus. The variant formic acid-dehydrogenation enzyme has improved dependency on the coenzyme NADP obtained by the method.
