PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely separate and carry doubly fed sheets even if their coefficient of friction is high. SOLUTION: A sheet separating/feeding device 102 is provided with a pick-up roller 4 for feeding the sheets placed on a sheet table 2 on which a plurality of sheets are placed one by one, a feed roller 7 for feeding the sheets in the direction in which the pick-up roller 4 feeds the sheets, a separation roller 9, which is arranged so as to oppose and press the feed roller 7 and can be rotated in the opposite direction to return the sheets in the direction opposite to the sheet feeding direction, a main motor 18 for driving the feed roller 7, and a separation motor 31 for driving the separation roller 9. The motors 18 and 31 are different from each other in torque, that is, the rotation torque of the separation roller 9 in the opposite direction is set smaller than that of the feed roller 7 so that the separation roller 9, when contacting the feed roller 7 directly or through a sheet, is rotated accompanying the feed roller 7.
