PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator with safety and a brake releasing device for an elevator winch which can quickly and safely perform rescue work, can perform the rescue work even when an elevator riding cage is near the landing where the brake wire is operated, and the brake wire does not swell on the hoistway during rescue work. SOLUTION: The releasing of the brake is operated by locating the end part of a brake wire 10 engaging with a brake 102a of the winch 102 right under the sill 21 of the landing or at a landing indicator box 24 and towing an inner wire 12 from the end of the brake wire 10 by lever operation of brake releasing device.
