<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera apparatus in which more suitable photographing conditions corresponding to an object are easily set. <P>SOLUTION: In accordance with a plurality of photographing modes, a plurality of parameters specifying image pickup conditions of the apparatus and a sample image 103 to be a sample of the object suited to the photographing modes are stored. When setting a photographing mode, the sample image 103 corresponding to the object to be photographed is selected and based upon a parameter corresponding to the sample image 103, the image pickup conditions are set. Even when a great number of kinds of photographing modes are present, without confusion in the setting of the photographing mode, anybody can easily set the photographing conditions more suitable for the object.
