PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the deterioration of the output image quality due to generation of non-jetting nozzles. SOLUTION: Non-jetting nozzles are specified by a user's input or a non-jetting nozzle detecting mechanism. In the case where dots formed by non-jetting nozzles on an output image belong onto the same line or on adjacent lines in a main scanning direction in the number of passes to be printed, a printing pass number is changed, or to change the printing pass number is urged to the user. A ratio of blank dots in one line and adjacent lines is reduced by the change of the printing pass number, and a position of blank dots caused by non-jetting nozzles is prevented from being biased on the output image.
