Measurement arrangement (16) for measuring a pattern for production of dental fittings using a 3D data set as a pattern for the 3D machining of a workpiece (11). The measurement instrument has means (16') for acquisition of characterizing data for the workpiece. An Independent claim is made for a machining device for producing dental fittings from a workpiece with a recording device (13) for imaging the workpiece and whereby a label (22) with information relating to the workpiece is attached to it.
