PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for reducing initial expenses and forming a flexible, coarse track regarding the manufacturing method of a scale in an absolute encoder having dense and coarse tracks. SOLUTION: The scale manufacturing method includes; a step for detecting the position of the dense track that is formed in advance for generating a pattern in a coarse track corresponding to the position; and a write-once formation step of the coarse track onto a scale surface.
