A frusto-conical shaped container, e.g. for yoghourt is formed from an arcuate cardboard blank coated on the surface lying inwards of the container with a non-toxic thermoplastic resin, e.g. polyethylene. The container base, which fits within the wider end of the container is of inverted U-shape providing a down-turned flange and is similarly coated on its inner surface. An overlap of the container side wall forms a longitudinal seam which is welded, the end section of the inner edge of the seamed wall being sealed by applying polyethylene, Fig. 5 (not shown). The base is welded to the side wall, which, Fig. 7 (not shown), may also be turned up round the lower edge of the downturned flange. One edge portion of the side wall may be folded back at the longitudinal seam to form a resin to resin bond, the cardboard edge being tapered, Figs. 10 and 12 (not shown). Creases 8, 8a may be formed in the blank, Fig. 2 (not shown) to aid in forming the rolled edge. The blank may be cut short, Figs. 9 and 13 (not shown), in which case the lower end of the container side wall is not turned up round the down-turned flange of the base. |
