PURPOSE: A CNIP(Calling Number Identification Presentation) service method in a mobile communication system is provided so that a subscriber can confirm the caller identification of every call through a short message, even though he is in a call impossible state. CONSTITUTION: In case that an HLR(Home Location Register) fails in the confirmation of a terminating MS(Mobile Station) or the terminating MS is in a power-off state(S10), a calling MSC(Mobile Switching Center) sends a request signal to an SMC(Short Message service Center) with the information of the calling MS so as to provide the CNIP service through a short message(S20). The SMC, in response to the request signal, creates a short message containing the caller's phone number and name and transfers it to a terminating MSC. The terminating MSC transfers the short message to the terminating MS through a terminating BSC(Base Station Controller) and a terminating BTS(Base station Transceiver Subsystem)(S30). The terminating MS stores the short message(S40). If the power of the terminating MS is turned on or the subscriber opens the terminating MS, the stored short message is displayed(S50).
