A detergent composition in stick form comprising from 60 to 99 parts by weight of a gelled soap, from 1 to 10 parts by weight of a synthetic detergent and from 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a brightening agent. The composition may contain an alcohol, e.g. ethanol or isopropanol which combines with the soap to form the gel matrix. Specified soaps are the alkali-metal, ammonium and substituted ammonium salts of higher fatty acids; specified synthetic detergents are ethylene oxide condensates with higher aliphatic alcohols, alkyl phenols, carboxylic acids, amides, amines and sulphonamides, and sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate; and specified brightening agents are coumarin types, triazolyl stilbene types, stilbene cyanuric types, acylamino stilbene types and miscellaneous types, e.g. benzimidazole derivatives and diphenylene sulphone derivatives. The composition may also contain fillers, perfumes, disinfectants, sequestrants, polyphosphates, silicates and/or soil-suspending agents. |
