The device has a control unit (3) provided with sensors providing pulses with a given repetition frequency used for delivery of control commands for the setting system (1), such that the phase shift between the pulse sequences is non-repetitive over a defined range. During a learning phase the number of pulses with the first pulse repetition frequency is stored in the control unit for a range of travel defined by the phase shift between the pulse sequences, the actual recorded pulse number updated by the stored pulse number upon travelling through the same range of travel during a subsequent operating phase.
