The invention relates to a method for the production of oil-in-water-type emulsions, comprising a water phase and an oil phase which is essentially comprised of difficulty volatile components, containing at least one oil-in-water emulsifier and, optionally, one W/O emulsifier and at least one cross-linking agent, also optionally comprising auxiliary agents, additives and/or active ingredients, d) obtainable by adding the water phase with the components thereof to the oil phase with the components thereof, to the O/W emulsifier and, optionally, to the W/O emulsifier, and whereby a cross-linking agent or several cross-linking agents are added to the water phase or oil phase or to both phases, resulting in increased viscosity and cross-linked O/W emulsions are produced, e) obtainable by bringing the mixture to a temperature inside or outside the phase inversion temperature range and subsequently cooling it to room temperature, resulting in increased viscosity and cross-linked O/W emulsions are produced, f) or obtainable by subsequently adding the cross-linking agent to a low-viscosity O/W emulsion and a cross-linked O/W emulsion is produced.
