<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high gain in a waveguide type light amplifier. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical waveguide of this embodiment, rare earth elements and correction elements contributing to rare earth element clustering prevention and band enlargement are simultaneously added inside a core 3, the density of the rare earth elements is turned high near the center and is gradually reduced toward the periphery, and the correction elements are distributed similarly to the density distribution of the rare earth elements.
