PURPOSE: A method for automatically setting up channels of a television is provided to automatically turn on the closest channel preliminarily registered if a user directly inputs a key for a channel with no synch signals. CONSTITUTION: A user sets up a plurality of channels(201). If a TV signal exists, the TV signal is stored on a channel map(202). The user changes the channel up and down to turn on a registered channel(203,205). The user inputs a number of a channel to turn on another channel(204,206). If the channel is changed to a channel having no synch signals, the channel is automatically changed to the registered channel by using channel information and the turned channel is fixed(207,208,209).
