A compact multi purpose tool has a main body (10) with a hexagonal section (19) which is gripped by a spanner to operate the tool. One end of the tool is fitted with a square stub to grip sockets while the other end has a sleeve with a hexagonal recess to hold screwdriver bits. The sockets are retained by a spring loaded ratchet ball (18) with a similar ball grip (12) for the screwdriver bits, secured by an external spring sleeve (15). The user operates the tool with a conventional spanner, either open ended or ring type.
