PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for supporting a stave and a supporting method with which the stave can be fitted without newly arranging an opening hole on a shell of a blast furnace and the installing level can be adjusted when the stave is installed. SOLUTION: In the stave supporting structure, installing the stave for cooling the furnace wall in the blast furnace to the inside of the furnace shell, the stave supporting structure and this supporting method are provided, with which a receiving metal for supporting the stave, is disposed on the surface of the stave faced to the shell and a supporting metal having a height adjusting bolt for adjusting the installation level of the stave in a nozzle hole for stave cooling pipe arranged in the shell and a shim are arranged.
