PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information storage medium in which reliable defect management is possible even when the medium is one whose durability is relative low for overwriting. SOLUTION: This information storage medium is provided with a user area (UA) for storing user data, a defect management area (DMA) for storing defective information related to the defects on the user area and an overwrite management area (DMA) for storing overwrite information related to the frequency of overwrites with respect to the defect management area.
