PURPOSE: A starter is provided to reduce vibration and noise and lengthen the lifespan of the starter, while achieving improved productivity and reducing costs. CONSTITUTION: A rectifier comprises a plurality of rectifier segments(20a) insulated from each other and arranged in a radial direction. The rectifier supplies power to an armature assembly by permitting a brush to contacting the surface of the rectifier segment. The outer surface of the segment is processed in such a manner that the roughness of the outer surface of the segment is 1.0 to 1.4μm, the deviation of the gap(A) formed between the segments is A±0.004mm, and the deviation of the size(B) of the segment measured in a radial direction is B±0.004mm.
