<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery separator, especially a sheet product useful as the separator for preventing overheating and the generation of a thermal-runaway of a lithium battery. <P>SOLUTION: This battery separator including the sheet product comprising at least(a) a first ply that is in the form of microporous sheet respectively having predetermined length and width, and 0.025cm or less thickness, and is substantially transformable into a non-porous membrane, while the sizes of the predetermined length and width are substantially kept at a temperature between 80°C and 150°C, and (b) a second ply capable of substantially keeping its microporous structure, predetermined length, width, and thickness at normal temperatures and at a temperature higher than the transformation temperature of the first ply by not less than about 10°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
