PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tubular titanium oxide particles and a manufacturing method useful for catalysts, catalyst carriers, adsorbents, photocatalysts, decorative materials, optical materials, photoelectric conversion device materials, proton electroconductive materials, electrolyte membranes for fuel cells, other electroconductive materials and the like. SOLUTION: Tubular titanium oxide particles comprise titanium oxide shown as (1):Ti<SB>a</SB>M<SB>b</SB>O<SB>x</SB>N<SB>y</SB>(a + b = 1, b = 0-0.2, 1≤x+y<2, 1≤x<2, 0≤y<0.2, and M:elements except for Ti) as a main component. The manufacturing method is characterized by hydrothermal treatment of an aqueous dispersion of titanium oxide particles and/or titanium oxide base composite oxides comprising titanium oxide and oxides except for titanium oxide with 2-100 nm of average particle diameter in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, and reduction treatment (containing nitriding).
