PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a surface of a linear material passed in a long pipe, from being scratched by sliding contact, and to improve the manufacturing capability by increasing a linear speed in heat treatment. SOLUTION: In this heat-treating furnace wherein a pipe 2 (muffle pipe) is penetrated through a furnace body 1, a hopper 6 is mounted at an inlet-side upper part of the pipe 2, and ceramic beads 7 are dropped into the pipe 2 from the hopper 6, and sent between the passing linear material 5 and a pipe inner bottom wall to a degree not bringing the linear material 5 into directly contact with the inner bottom wall of the pipe to be placed between the pipe inner bottom wall and the linear material 5. The ceramic beads 7 guides the linear material 5 by rolling contact, and are moved with the linear material 5 to be discharged from a pipe outlet side, and recovered on a ceramic beads receiver 8.
