PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately and precisely know quantity of remaining staples in a stapler body. SOLUTION: This device is detachably provided with a staple cartridge 2 attached to and detached from a magazine part of the stapler body 1. Sheet-like staples "a" each having a number of straight staples connected into a sheet form are housed in a cartridge body 2a in a stacked state. Starting from the sheet-like staple "a" at a lower end, the sheet-like staples "a" are led out of an opening at a lower part of a front wall of the cartridge body 2a in turn by a provided electric stapler. An engaging plate 3 engaging with the sheet-like staple "a" at an uppermost part is arranged at the upper part of the cartridge body 2a, a position detecting means 9 detecting a position of the engaging plate 3 inside or outside of the cartridge body 2a, and the quantity of the remaining sheet-like staples "a" is detected in accordance with position detection by the position detecting means 9.
