PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a cavity in a base member with which the base member can be formed inexpensively in high accuracy. SOLUTION: This method for forming the cavity 2 in a metal plate 10 by pushing a punch 12 having a prescribed shape from the one direction side 10a of the metal plate 10 having prescribed thickness, comprises a hole piercing process for piercing the holes 11 having the volume corresponding to the volume of the cavity 2 on the metal plate 10 and a cavity forming process for forming the cavity 2 on the the metal plate 10 by pushing the punch 12 having the prescribed shape from the one direction side 10a of the metal plate 10. Then, the metal thickness is shifted by pushing with the punch 12 into the holes 11, and when the punch 12 is pushed to a prescribed depth, the holes 11 are closed with the metal thickness.
