The recovery of materials such as solvents comprises the use of a membrane separation process, e.g. pervaporation or vapor permeation, to produce a permeate fraction with increased water content and retentate fraction of reduced water content, followed by distillation of the retentate. Independent claims are included for combination systems of distillation columns and membrane separation units.
