RECOIL STARTER

PURPOSE: A recoil starter is provided to couple a power-driven device driven by an engine to a crankshaft of the engine in a state where the recoil starter is mounted to the crankshaft on the same side of the engine as the crankshaft is disposed even if the engine has a cantilever-type crankshaft. CONSTITUTION: A recoil starter connects a power-driven device to a crankshaft(C) of an engine(E) in a state where the recoil starter is mounted to the crankshaft on the same side of the engine as the crankshaft is disposed. A reel support shaft(4) projected coaxially with the crankshaft is disposed in a starter housing(1). A rope reel(3) having a wound recoil rope(2) and a cam(6) for transmitting rotation via centrifugal ratchets(8) to the crankshaft are rotatably mounted on the reel support shaft. The rope reel and the cam are rotatively coupled to each other via a damper spring(12). An opening(16) is formed in the reel support shaft to extend from a distal end near the crankshaft to the outside of the starter housing. A drive shaft(D) of the device is connected to the crankshaft inside the opening.
