VARIABLE TETHER TENSION DEVICE

PURPOSE: A variable tether tension device is provided to reduce impact to a passenger at the expansion state of an air bag cushion and reduce the manufacturing cost by using gas in an inflator. CONSTITUTION: A variable tether tension device for a curtain air bag is installed at a pillar portion of a vehicle to fix an air bag cushion expanded from a duct installed at a roof side panel(10) at a required position. A piston guide chamber(26) introduces gas from a gas supply pipe(24) installed with an inflator discharging the compressed gas to the duct. A piston in the piston guide chamber slides downward by the gas to the piston guide chamber with being fixed by a stopper(26b) protruded from the piston guide chamber. A tether(22) is installed at both ends of the corner of a curtain air bag cushion(14).
