<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attenuation fiber in which absorption loss is lowered on a long wavelength side in the wavelength range of 1530 nm-1625 nm, and an image formation device with high productivity in dispersion compensation fiber module both-side image formation for which loss wavelength characteristics are stable even when a dispersion compensation amount changes. <P>SOLUTION: The attenuation fiber is composed of a core and a clad provided on the outer periphery and the core is composed of a center core part having a refractive index larger at least than the clad and an outer side core part provided on the outer periphery of the core center part and having the refractive index equivalent to the one of the center core part. The outer diameter of the outer side core part is≤4.5μm, the outer diameter ratio of the outer side core part to the center core part is 1.0-2.0, metal dopant is contained only in the center core part and the specific refractive index difference of the core to the clad is≥0.7%.
