Drugs containing taxiresinol, (7'R)-7'-hydroxylariciresinol, secoisolariciresinol and isotaxiresinol, which are lignans contained in hongdoushan, as the active ingredients. Drugs containing an extract, which is obtained by extracting a hongdoushan plant with water and further extracting the obtained extract with an organic solvent, as the active ingredient. These drugs are useful particularly as a hyopglycermic agent, a liver protecting agent and an anticancer agent.
