PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a unit for decoding a digital video in which unnatural deterioration in image quality, e.g. blurs, is suppressed and block distortions can be reduced. SOLUTION: In the method for decoding a digital video subjected to digital encoding using block division and orthogonal transform, block distortions can be lessened at the block boundary at decoding, by correcting the basic vector at the time of encoding and performing inverse orthogonal transformation.
