PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of consumption of a circuit band when a plurality of VLANs are multiplexed and set to one port of a switch and is set. SOLUTION: Each of switches #1 to #4 are managed in correspondence with each other, for every groups of VLANs where a network construction among switches are the same (a group G1 composed of VLAN1, and a group G2 composed of VLAN2 and VLAN3), a group number of that group, and a port number of a port belonging to that group(a group where VLAN belonging to that group is set). Each of the switches #1 to #4 executes topology calculation based upon spanning tree protcol while taking all ports in the group to which a port receiving BPDU belongs as objects to be processed upon reception of BPDU. That is, the topology calculation is achieved while taking collectively a plurality of VLANs 2 and VLANs 3 belonging to the group G2, so that BPDU is delivered for every VLAN. Consequently, the amount of consumption of a line band can be more reduced compared with a prior art technique executing topology calculation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
