PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely carry out facsimile communication in a user environment wherein an internet connection service offered by a carrier is utilized. SOLUTION: When which one of a plurality of different IFAX systems is used to carry out the facsimile communication is decided, the IFAX system to be used in the facsimile communication with the other station is selected based on the identification information of the other station (step S13). Then, an internet service provider capable of using the selected IFAX system in the facsimile communication with the other station is selected (steps S14, S18, S21). Then, an identification information for connecting to the selected internet service provider is used to connect to the internet connection service offered by the carrier (steps S16, S20, S23).
