PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which can detect the temperature of a fixing roller more adequately to realize stable toner fixation and an image forming apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: The fixing device 7 is equipped with a heat roller 8 which is heated by its internal heat source and a pressure roller 9 which is pressed against the heat roller 8 to rotate together. A 1st temperature sensor 11 which detects the surface temperature of the heat roller 8 is provided downstream from a nip part of both the rollers in a form conveying direction. This temperature sensor 11 is arranged at a nearly center part of a paper passage area of the heat roller and used to control the temperature of the heat roller 8. At a roller lengthwise end part which is upstream from the nip part in the form conveying direction, a 2nd temperature sensor is provided which detects the surface temperature of the heat roller 8. The 2nd temperature sensor is used to detect abnormally high temperature of the heat roller 8. The heat roller 8 preferably has a structure that the inner circumference of a relatively thin cylindrical roller is reinforced with a reinforcing member. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
