Each flange (2) has an inward-extending portion (16) fitting over the end of the pipe (1). Tongues (3) extend away from the end of the pipe and are compressed onto the outside of the pipe by a band (5) with a screw tensioner. There are grooves (4) between the adjacent tongues. The C-section flange has an outward-extending portion (8) and a cylindrical outer portion (6) extending toward the end of the pipe. A centering ring (11) with forward-extending flanges (12,13) fits inside the C-section flange. It has an expanded sealing lip (14) fitting against the join between adjacent flanges on pipe ends.
